Things to Consider When Choosing Boat Propellers

If you got a boat, you might have to learn the different parts and how these parts work. This will ensure that you can solve basic problems you would encounter as you go out in the river, lake or sea. When it comes to motor powered boats, one of the most important parts the boat must have is boat propeller. It relies on the energy produced by the motor and make the boat run. Most if not all boat propellers are made up of metal. And you are advised to store a spare or two in case the current boat propeller gets damaged or stops functioning. If you visit a store selling various boat supplies, you will be surprised by the number of different boat propellers available. Here are some things to consider that would help you choose the right boat propeller shaft.

1. Boat - Different boats need different propellers. An air boat would need a large propeller that can produce powerful wind to make the boat run. A small boat need a small propeller while large boats need bigger propellers or else it will not run. The size and type of the boat you got will dictate the ideal propeller it needs.

2. Motor Capacity - Since the boat propeller is powered by a motor, you have to consider the capacity of the motor when choosing a boat propeller. There is no reason to get a large propeller if the motor is not capable of turning it fast enough to power the boat. Every propeller has its specific requirements when it comes to the motor suitable for it. Stick to the propeller recommended by the motor manufacturer.

3. Water - You might be using the boat on a river, lake or sea. It can even be a swamp where the boat needs to go over water plants or land in a short distance. The acidity of the water can also affect the rate of wear and tear of the propeller. Make sure that the propeller you are considering is suitable of the water where you will be using the boat.

4. Budget - Some propellers are expensive while others are cheap. Do not always go for a cheap propeller if you want the boat propeller to last for a long time and perform on top condition. Check your budget and see which propellers are affordable.

5. Propeller - Lastly, you need to consider the propeller itself. This includes its size, design and material. The material must be water and rust resistant to last longer.

These are the things you have to consider in order to choose the right boat propeller.
